Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable treatment used to reduce excess fat beneath the chin, also called a double chin. Kybella offers Austin patients a non-surgical chin-fat-reduction option with minimal downtime.

How Does Kybella Work?

Kybella is composed of a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid. When intestinal bacteria break down bile acids that the liver secretes, deoxycholic acid is formed. This naturally occurring substance helps break down and liquify fat, allowing for easier absorption by the intestine.

When injected into the submental area (the area beneath the chin), Kybella destroys stubborn fat cells. These are then gradually filtered out of the body. This results in a reduction in submental volume.

Am I a Good Candidate for Kybella?

Kybella is mostly recommended for people who have moderate amounts of fat in the upper neck area. Since the treatment specifically destroys fat cells, it is not effective for people who are looking to tighten loose excess skin on the neck.

People who want to opt for this treatment must first explore all conventional options for fat reduction. If diet and exercise have not produced fat-loss results in the chin area, only then should they consider getting Kybella.

Ideal candidates are in overall good health, are non-smokers, and have realistic expectations. To find out whether you are a good candidate, visit with Dr. White for a Kybella consultation. She will examine the area in and around the chin and then develop a personalized treatment plan for you.

Dr white is amazing. She listens to your needs and is very friendly. 10/10 would recommend.

How Is the Treatment Performed?

Kybella and all other injectable treatments are administered by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Aisha White. The overall process takes 15 to 20 minutes to complete.

Before the procedure, Dr. White marks the injection sites and then administers a topical anesthetic or ice pack to help avoid discomfort or pain. Each treatment session involves 20 to 50 small injections beneath the chin. The amount of fat you have in the area determines the exact number of injections needed.

After treatment, a degree of swelling and redness will be present. These will fade over time and may be present for around two weeks.

Results appear gradually as the Kybella kills the fat cells in the area. Once the full results are apparent, patients can enjoy a sculpted profile. Kybella destroys fat cells, and once the fat is dissolved, it does not regrow. Because of this, the effects of Kybella are permanent.

How Many Treatment Sessions Are Required?

Dr. White will design a customized treatment plan for you based on your specific requirements. Most people require multiple sessions to reach their desired aesthetic goals, with a majority of people requiring up to 6 sessions. There will be a gap of at least one month between sessions.

How Much Does Kybella Cost?

The price of Kybella varies from practice to practice. The exact cost of your treatment will depend on the number of injections required and the number of sessions needed.
